Sex and Intimacy Therapy

Restoring Desire, Pleasure, and Healthy Sexuality

Sex Therapy in Georgia

Sex Therapy is psychotherapy specialization that addresses concerns related to sexuality, gender, intimacy, desire, relationships, connection, sexual health, life transitions, vitality and more. Provided by a professional psychotherapist, treatment is specific to the needs of the client (and individual or couple).

What does sex therapy involve?

Treatment typical begins with weekly sessions that are 50-minutes each. This may move to bi-weekly or monthly sessions as progress is made. Sessions can be virtual or in-person at our Tucker, Georgia office. The therapist works with clients collaboratively to define treatment goals and the plan for reaching them. Length of treatment varies and will be discussed after your initial assessment at regular intervals over the course of treatment.

Like other traditional psychotherapy approaches, sessions may include a variety of treatment methods and methodologies, tailored to your presenting issues and unique self. Addressing sexual concerns is often a part of healing intimacy, relationship, and desire issues for individuals or couples.

Sex therapy does not involve sexual behavior, excitement, touch, or massage. The therapy session is a safe space to discuss your questions, concerns, and issues related to sexuality.

How Can Sex Therapy Help?

Sex, desire, intimacy, and connection are natural and essential parts of our lives and humanity. Unfortunately, many of us have experiences and receive messages from our families, society, peers, culture during childhood and in our teen years that damage our overall sexual experience, knowledge, and attitudes. The results can stay with us into adulthood and may include shame, guilt, fear, trauma, and a life closed off from emotional and/or physical intimacy.

A professional therapist trained in sex therapy can help you, alone or with a partner, to explore these old wounds, opening doors for healing and growth.

Incorrect, misplaced, or uninformed narratives about sexuality, our bodies, and our worth can prematurely shut down our growth as sexually healthy and emotionally mature adults - individually and in relationships.

SEXUAL WELLNESS

As a universal human experience, sexuality includes a diverse range of experiences, attitudes, and practices. Sexual wellness goes beyond physical health and dysfunction to include positive and respectful relationships, pleasurable and safe sensual experiences.

Talking about your concerns with a knowledgable, supportive, and professional therapist can be a tremendous step toward wholeness — integrating all of the amazing parts that make you who you are. Your therapist will support you, as you are right now, and as you work towards your goals. A life of more emotional and physical satisfaction is possible. Asking for help is the first step.

INTIMACY & DESIRE

Sexuality is a complex and integral part of the human experience. Therapy helps address health concerns, physical connection, pleasure, emotional safety, vulnerability, social and cultural messaging, intimacy, and more.

SEXUALITY COUNSELING
